Number 32

28 Aug

Decide on a memorial for the baby.

We debated back on forth on what to do as a memorial for the baby.  We were unable to receive his remains so we could bury him or scatter his ashes.  We had to do something without any physical reminder of him.  We thought of planting a tree in his memory in a park nearby our house or dedicating a bench to him so that we had a place to visit him but it never really spoke to us.  We thought one day we would see something that would feel right and we would do that then.

We regularly donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  It’s a charity that was very dear to my husband’s family’s heart.  It’s not for any particular reason that I can figure out. I mean, there is no personal connection to  the charity, it’s just one that they’ve supported.

Well recently, they sent us information in the mail about expanding their Pathway to Hope and we could purchase a brick in someone’s honor.  We just felt like this was the right way to remember him.  Even though it’s far from where we live and not something we can visit regularly, we just thought it was fitting that his memorial goes towards a cause that we care a lot about and contribute to regularly.

We filled out the paperwork today and in 2013, there will be a large brick at St. Jude’s that reads:

In Honor of

Baby’s name

We love you always.

And once it’s completed, we plan on flying down to Memphis to see it.  And maybe by then, he’ll have a little brother or sister that will be visiting it with us.

We did something similar–purchased a brick in a park (and planted a tree in another park). I think your memorial sounds absolutely perfect.

This is such a beautiful and touching way to honor him.

I thinks that’s the best possible memorial, plus St judes is the best. You will help save a child’s life. Very well done.
